BCLA-webinar: Risicocommunicatie over ziekten en bijziendheid

Myopia is known to be associated with a number of sight-threatening ocular diseases, including myopic macular degeneration (MMD), rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). Often, the risks of developing myopia-related diseases and associated visual impairment (VI) are described in relative terms; however, using only relative measures of risk can be misleading and exaggerate our perception of risk. Therefore, when evaluating the likelihood of a person developing an ocular complication, it is also important to consider the absolute risk.

This CPD webinar aims to provide eye care practitioners with a better understanding of the risks of ocular diseases and VI associated with myopia.
The session will enable practitioners to recognise and understand the differences between relative and absolute measures of risk. Practitioners will learn about appropriate risk communication, enabling them to have balanced conversations about risk with patients in their practice.
